Developing openness in electronic healthcare systems
نویسنده
چکیده
Electronic data generation and analysis is on the increase. Healthcare is no exception in this matter. Considering the cost and sensitive nature of healthcare, electronic healthcare systems provide a great opportunity to present valuable data when and where it is needed. However there are barriers due to diverse origin and destination of data in healthcare services. This paper presents an overview of these barriers and considers them in the light of an open data ecosystem metaphor. This provides insights into how barriers could be overcome but also leaves some questions that need to be addressed in future research. Track: E-Business and E-Government

Developing a Standardized Medical Speech Recognition Database for Reconstructive Hand Surgery
Fast and holistic access to the patients’ clinical record is a major requirement of modern medical decision support systems (DSS). While electronic health records (EHRs) have replaced the traditional paper-based records in most healthcare organization, the data entry into these systems remains largely manual. Speech recognition technology promises substitution of the more convenient speech-base...

Reimbursement for healthcare has utilized a variety of payment mechanisms with varying degrees of effectiveness. Whether these mechanisms are used singly or in combination, it is imperative that the resulting systems remunerate on the basis of the quantity, complexity, and quality of care provided. Expanding the role of the electronic medical record (EMR) to monitor provider practice, patient r...
متن کاملSpecifying Standard Security Mechanisms in Multi-agent Systems
Distributed multi-agent systems propose new infrastructure solutions to support the interoperability of electronic services. Security is a central issue for such infrastructures and is compounded by their intrinsic openness, heterogeneity and because of the autonomous and potentially self-interested nature of the agents therein. This article reviews the work that the FIPA agent standards body h...

A more sophisticated understanding of the unpredictable, disorderly and unstable aspects of healthcare organisations is developing in the knowledge translation (KT) literature. In an article published in this journal, Kitson et al introduced a new model for KT in healthcare based on complexity theory. The Knowledge Translation Complexity Network Model (KTCNM) provides a fresh perspective by mak...

Healthcare providers’ ongoing investment in electronic health records (EHRs) necessitates an understanding of physicians’ expectations about using EHRs. Such understanding may aid educators and administrators when utilizing scarce resources during EHR training and implementation activities. This study aimed to link individual medical student characteristics to their perceptions of EHRs’ ease of...
